Blackmore Family 1943
Group photo of the Blackmore family in 1943. Pictured from left to right are Barry Blackmore (1921-2002), his stepmother Helen Blackmore, his father John Hampton Blackmore (1886--1954), and his sister Florence (Blackmore) Budge. Barry was in the navy in WWII and was home visiting family in Lefroy when this photo was taken. John H. Blackmore had come from England to Innisfil in 1909 and married Katherine Barry of Lefroy (1880-1940). Other Blackmore sons who served in WWII were Frank (1919-1966), Bill (1912-1963), Tom (1915-1990) and Vincent (1923-2008). Barry is pictured wearing his sailor's uniform, and the family is standing arm-in-arm outside, with a leafless tree in the background., IHS 4477
Brian Baker Holds Bow Of The Emily May
Brian Baker holds a piece of the bow of the Emily May, retrieved from the waters of Lake Simcoe off Belle Ewart Park, where her remains lie to this day. Built in 1861 in Belle Ewart by Issac May and named for his daughter, the Emily May had a 21 year career in both passenger and freight business. As the railroad became a more prominent means of transportation the ship was renamed Lady of the Lake and became purely a pleasure craft, ferrying tourists and revelers around our beautiful Lake Simcoe. The Emily May was abandoned in 1883 off the coast of Belle Ewart. Eventually it was burned and the remains are still in Lake Simcoe., IHS 4503

George Campbell In The Cockpit Of A Plane
Photo of George William "Bill" Campbell in the cockpit of a Consolidated B-24 Liberator aircraft. He was the son of James and Annie May (née Jennings) Campbell who farmed in the 1940's on the 11th Line, on a hundred acre farm that they named Sandy Cove Acres. Bill enlisted in the Royal Air Force Ferry Command, serving as flight engineer, navigator and aero-mechanic during the war years. Photographer was Allan Campbell between 1941 and 1943. The photo shows the many gauges of the cockpit as well as a side profile of Bill while he grips the yoke or control column., IHS 4464

Howard and Gordon were the sons of Thomas Henry Muir (1860-1944) and Annie Muir (née Bain, 1879-1961) who had moved to Painswick in 1939. Both men were expert plasterers after serving in WWII. Harry Cannon and Ruby May Trumbley Wedding
Wedding portrait of Henry "Harry" George Cannon and Ruby May Trumbley, 24 November 1919. Harry (1889-1947) came to Canada from Waddesdon, Buckinghamshire, England, about 1912. Before WWI Harry had met Ruby of Thornton-Cookstown area, daughter of Thomas Trumbley and Elizabeth Ann Crittenden. They married soon after Harry's overseas service in the First World War and settled in Churchill. They had three children: Douglas who died at the age of 12 in a bicycle accident, Muriel (later Mrs. C. Chambers) and Ella (Mrs. R. Patterson). Harry served in the 255th Battalion and 75th Battalion in World War One. Harry also served in the Veteran's Guard in World War Two. The photo shows Harry seated wearing a dark suit and holding a roll of papers, and Ruby May standing next to him in a white long sleeved gown., IHS 4485

Portrait of the John Allan and Irene "Kemp" McFadden wedding party in 1945. John Allan McFadden (1918-1995) was the son of Robert J. McFadden and Effie May Plant of Thornton area. He married Irene Gertrude Kemp, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.M. Kemp of 14th Concession of Innisfil on June 23, 1945. Irene's sister, Minnie Kemp, stands beside her as her attendant. Unidentified military friends are Allan's attendants. Allan served with the Toronto Scottish Regiment during WWII. The men are dressed in their military uniforms, and John and one of his groomsmen are wearing kilts., IHS 4479
Launch Of The Emily May
Photo taken during the official unveiling of the Emily May model. Pictured in the photo are Bill Hester, historical researcher, and Don Houghton, model creator, standing beside the completed model of the steamship Emily May. The glass encased model now has a permanent home in the Innisfil Town Hall. Built in 1861 in Belle Ewart by Issac May and named for his daughter, the Emily May had a 21 year career in both passenger and freight business. The Innisfil Historical Society celebrated the unveiling of a scale model of the amazing ship in its new home at Innisfil Town Hall. Lou Boselli On Horseback On Lefroy In 1928
Lou Boselli on horseback in Lefroy in 1928. Louis Paul Renato Boselli (1926-2007) was the only child of Renato Boselli and Anna Nichols. After his parents divorced, when he was one year old, his mother brought him from Montreal to Lefroy, where she ran the hotel there and married Albert "Alf" Glionna. Lou had his schooling in Lefroy and served in the navy in WWII., IHS 4475
Lynhurst, Former Home Of Robert Oscar Hurst (1887-1958)
Photo of a home with signs at the front of the building labeling the home as "Lynhurst" another "flowers vegetables for sale". Lynhurst was the former home of Robert Oscar Hurst (1887-1958). Robert was born at Painswick, son of John Hurst and Sarah Booth. Robert became a well known pharmacist and Professor of Pharmacy in Toronto. For a time he spent summers there, where he enjoyed gardening. During the 1940s the family of Charles Hawkins lived in the home. Their daughter Doris had married Stanley McDonald. While Stanley fought in WWII, the Korean War, and later peacekeeping missions, Doris and children lived at Lynhurst. The photo was taken in early 1940s., IHS 4474
Marriage of John A. Trumbley to Alice Turner
Marriage of John Alymer Trumbley to Alice Turner on March 29, 1919. While a farmer in the Cookstown area, John A. Jack Trumbley (born 1895) son of Thomas and Elizabeth Ann (Crittenden) Trumbley, enlisted in WWI during which time he was shot in the leg. He served in 157th Battalion, 19th Battalion (3rd reserves), and 1st Central Ontario Regiment Depot. He married Alice Turner and brought her back to the Cookstown area where they had nine children. The oldest five children served in WW11. Alice died of heart problems in 1932. Jack had developed polio and was in a wheelchair. Because he was unable to care for them, the children went to live with Innisfil residents and in foster homes. The photo shows John in his military uniform, and Alice in a white wedding gown and veil, holding a small bouquet., IHS 4488
