Back to School

It's time to go back to school - for everyone! This summer the Innisfil Historical Society has been running their "School for Seniors" program, bringing senior citizens from area retirement and nursing homes to experience a school day as it was in 1935. Except for the plastic tables and chairs, stepping into Knock Heritage Center (Knock School) is like stepping back in time. From the blackboards to the early readers visitors were able to get a taste of the past. Residents of Roberta Place were thrilled to join in the fun, all firmly declaring that they had never felt the touch of the strap as the IHS's Donna Wice began the day's lessons.  It was a day of reminisicng and laughter as the visitors regaled each other with stories of their school days, recalling having to bring in the wood to stoke the fire and having to try and concentrate on your own lessons while the older students were being taught in the one room schools. From singing God Save the King to the art lesson - students of every age enjoyed their day visiting the past!

Here is a look at this visit to the Knock Heritage site and some images of Knock Community School from the past.

Knock School looks very similar today - except for the addition of a ramp for accessibility.
