First House On Burnside Farm
Photo of the first house on Burnside farm, which was eventually torn down. It was a raised brick home with a large wraparound verandah and numerous windows. The photo was taken during the winter and there is snow in the yard and on the steps. Mr. Walter Allan bought this farm from his brother Gavin C. Allan, and at one time Gavin lived in this house too. When Mr. Walter Allan moved there he moved a second house on the property, and Miss. Kay Allan and Mrs. Eva Allan (Reid) and family lived in the second house. Their uncle, Gavin C. Allan, was a contractor. He built their house at 308 Killarney Beach Rd. in Lefory and his own home. He also helped build St. James Church in Stroud., IHS800

First World War Soldiers
Photograph of three soldiers from the Innisfil area in uniform in the first World War. Pictured includes from left to right William James Davies of Painswick (later married Manetta Jago), Sapper Cecil Gordon Morris of Thornton (Essa Township), and Private Edward Milton Hubbert of Holly (NH lot 5, Conc.11). All of the men enlisted into the 177th Battalion. Cecil Morris served in the 177th Battalion, 3rd Reserved Battalion, 123rd Battalion, and Sapper for 8th Battalion, Canadian Engineers. Edward Hubbert served in the 177th Battalion, and 4th Battalion., IHS1107

Florence And Gavin C. Allan
Gavin C. Allan and Florence Campbell of Port Arthur and Fennell's Corner married in 1901. Their children were Agnes (m. Matt Bell), Margaret (m. R.J. New), Bessie (m. Geoff Robinson), and Jack. Gavin was a Councillor, a Clerk and served several terms as a Reeve before retiring. They also had 2 other daughters who died young, Jean and Edith., IHS1481

Forced Landing
Photo of a biplane on a training flight from Camp Borden that made a forced landing on a farm field in the north half of Lot 19, Concession 7. The landing drew the attention of neighbours who came to see it. This information was provided by Ken Robinson from page 194 of the book "Skunks and Scholars." The photo shows several men alongside the plane, possibly pushing it for take-off.

Ford Model T Truck
Photo of the Ford Model T truck that became the first motorized vehicle to haul grain to the Craigvale elevator in 1918. The truck was owned by Bert Marquis who lived on NH Lot 14, Conc. 6. It is a relatively small vehicle with a short flatbed and is being driven by a man in a white shirt and suspenders wearing a flat cap. Former Bank And Post Office, Lefroy
Photo of the square red brick building on Killarney Beach Road that was originally built as a bank and later functioned as a post office. It was built in either 1913 or 1916 by Ross Sheldon of Lefroy. Sheldon built several similar banks, including one in Kirkland Lake and one in King. The photo appears to have been taken out of a car window as a side mirror is visible at the bottom., IHS499

Photograph of the former Lefroy Public School sometime after it had been converted into a private dwelling. Beginning in the mid-1800s, the building had once served as a school for children from the Lefroy and Bell Ewart communities on Killarney Beach Road. This building is still standing on the north side of Killarney Beach Rd. in Lefroy, just west of the train tracks., IHS500

Former Site Of The Haughton Mill Dam
Members of the Innisfil Historical Society visit the former site of the Haughton Mill dam, used by the sawmill and shingle mill of the 1870s, which provided many jobs. Mill hands lived in 8 or 9 cottages nearby. There was also a Post Office nearby for 9 years and it was known as the "Lennox" Post Office., IHS2015
