Wilbert Black

Studio portrait of Wilbert Black, brother to Mrs. Carrie McDonald. Mr. Black later became a Corporal in the 157th Battalion during the First World War. He was also the son of Robert Black Jr. and Margaret Fagan, grandson of Robert Black Sr., and great grandson of James Black, one of Innisfil's early pioneers. Wilfred Stewart

Mr. Wilfred Stewart, husband of Mrs. Bertha Stewart, in old rocking chair on verandah. In 1925 he started to work for the township as long time Innisfil Assessor and tax collector (dog license and school census). Died on his 92nd birthday. In 1941 he was appointed baliff. Shortly after he retired. He farmed for years at Tyrone, north of Churchill. He was also Churchil United Church Sunday School Superintendant for 16 years. William Allan (born 10 November 1838, died May 17, 1925) was the eldest son of Gavin Allan and Agnes Goodfellow Huff. William owned NH Lot 15 concession 4 and married Georgina McDonald on 9 March 1864. They had six children: Mary Elizabeth (m. Seal Bennett), Lillian (m. Gilmour Reive), Jessie (m. Frank Beatty), Winnifred (m. Fred McNamara), Agnes Jane (unmarried), Fred (unmarried), and Bert (Albert) (Unknown)., IHS1293

Left to right: William Dempsey (1886-1966) and his brother George Dempsey (1889-1971), known as the Dempsey Bros., bought the NH Lot 24, Conc. 1 in 1927 and built summer cottages (Bayview Beach, Second Line). Ice was cut for the use of all the summer cotages (which they rented), they had an ice house near the barn where ice was stored in sawdust for the use of cottagers in their iceboxes., IHS2307

William Cowan and his daughter Mary Alice. William Cowan (March 15, 1837 - December 13, 1927) was born at Mollinburn, near Jhonstone's Bridge, Dumfrieshire, Scotland. He sailed May 21, 1857 on the steamship "Clide" and arrived after 13 days in Canada. He died December 13, 1927 in his 91st year on the farm he purchased from "the Crown" on the north half of Lot 11, Concession 8.
Mary Alice Cowan was the daughter of William Cowan and Ann (Ross) Cowan, born in Innisfil on January 19, 1871. She lived on the farm, north half of Concession 8 until 1932, when she moved to Stroud and lived in a house on the west side of the Presbyterian Church where Innisfil Plaza is presently located (1988). She died January 3, 1963., IHS3236

He was married to Ann Teasdale and together they had six sons and three daughters: William (1851-1929, m. Elizabeth Stephenson), John (1852-1930, m. Emma Herrell), Charles (1856-1870, James (1858-1945, m. Martha Srigley), Rebecca (1860-1924, m. William Hopkins), Jonathan (1863-1931, m. Jame Pearson), Thursa (1871-1945, m. Thomas Bishop, later m. Grant Jarvis), and Rhoda (m. William Pearson). Of these, all but two established homes in Innisfil Township. The old homestead remained in the family name until the retirement of W.O.
