: Schools - Sunnybrae Ii; Sunnybrae started as a four classroom school, built in 1959 by Innisfil Township School Area #2 Board, at that time. The old school in Stroud on the corner of Highway 11 and Concession 10 had its two rooms full and a very unsatisfactory room in the basement. This basement was closed with the opening of the new school. After the passing of Provincial Legislation making a township the smallest unit of administration, the Innisfil Township School Area built a six classroom addition to Sunnybrae in 1965 and sold the Thornton School S.S.#9, Holly School S.S. #12 and Knock S.S. #15. Knock and Holly were bought by the township as community halls. Schools

: Schools - Warnica Annex #1; Painswick School (also called Warnica School Annex #1) S.S. #13. Corner Highway 11 and Conc. 13. Built in 1860 - earliest brick school in Innisfil. Closed 1967. Now demolished. The woodshed to the left of the photo was used for awhile as an additional classroom. After the closing of the school and with the takeover by Simcoe County Board of Education, Innisfil Historical Society were able to lease the school for several years as its headquarters at one dollar per year due mostly to the historical interest of the Supt. of Plant at the time, Mr. Gary Alix Schools Painswick, IHS3515

: Sergeant Louis Edward Cameron Monkman; Portrait of Louis E.C. Monkman, father of Don Monkman, in army uniform. He attested with the 13th Company of 76th Battalion for the First World War. Once in France, he was transferred to the 4th Battalion where he served in the trenches until he contracted rheumatic fever. He was then transferred to the Canadian Pay Office in London, was eventually promoted to Sergeant and became the Paymaster for the 4th Battalion., IHS1769

: Serpent Mounds on the 13th Line of Innisfil; Photo taken of the so-called "Serpent mounds" located on the 13th line of Innisfil, looking north from Concession 13, Lot 23. An entry in Bill Metcalfe's diary stored at the Simcoe County Archives provides further details about the discovery and investigation of this site. According to Harry Armstrong, the owner of a nearby farm, someone from the University of Toronto dug a trench across the mound. Harry Mayor worked on the project, and also uncovered an indigenous burial site near 25th Sideroad on the Smith half of Lot 25. The photo shows a split rail fence in a zig zag pattern with a serpentine shaped hill or mound dotted with tree stumps visible just behind the fence. The property on which the mounds are situated belonged to Archie McLean from 1858, who sold it to Stephan Howard in 1868. Howard lost the property on default mortgage when it was picked up by Willaim Metcalfe in 1876. Metcalfe sold to James and Agnes Carnochan in 1892, who also defaulted. In 1906 the Toronto Trust Company sold the property to John Irwin, who in turn sold in 1916 to Thomas Clark and Fanny Clark (née Christie), the daughter of William Mellis Christie who owned the Christie cookie company in Toronto. : Sharpe Family; Studio portrait of the Sharpe Family. Pictured in the centre are Mr. John and Mrs. Nellie (née Gray) Sharpe with their children Kate (front left) who married W.D. Henry (first marriage), and Lizzie (front right) who married W.D. Henry (second marriage). In the back row from left to right are William (father of Zeta, Muriel, and Kaye), Ann who married Thomas Lucas, George (father of Scott), Mary (married Doc Patterson, the Allandale druggist), Matt (father of Telford and Winnifred), and Margaret (married Jack Gordon). The Sharpe family came from Sligo, Ireland and were some of Innisfil's earliest pioneers. John and Nellie met in Rawdon, Quebec after both moving to Canada with their parents and together they moved to Innisfil in about 1843. They had twelve children and celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary. The original spelling of Sharp when the family came to Canada was without an E, but the E was added because it was considered fancier by John Sharpe's mother, Florence Ingham., IHS915
