Portrait of Louis E.C. Monkman, father of Don Monkman, in army uniform. He attested with the 13th Company of 76th Battalion for the First World War. Once in France, he was transferred to the 4th Battalion where he served in the trenches until he contracted rheumatic fever. He was then transferred to the Canadian Pay Office in London, was eventually promoted to Sergeant and became the Paymaster for the 4th Battalion.
