Barn Raising after storm
Before and after pictures of a barn, taken in 1958 after a storm. Description is taken from tape recorded discussion of the photo by Don Beatty (Lefroy) and John Cowan (Knock). Don Beatty speaking: On July 3rd, 1957, a freak windstorm went through and leveled my barn and several others. With a lot of volunteer help it was rebuilt. Frank, you remember that storm! This is Mr. Frank Cowan who has joined us now. Yes it did; it took the east half of the north mow of the barn off and took it down into the field about twenty rods that afternoon. It hit Craig Hunter's Poultry Farm next; went down through your bush, I guess. Yes, mowed through the bush and took down a lot of trees; cedars and seemed to hit Craig Hunter's next. It got to my place and took down the Bob Johnson barn next door and Hyslops and Abramskys; did a little bit of damage at Duncan's, a little bit at the old Percy Thompson place and then seemed to skip over the hill and just flattened the barn down at Harvey Ralston's on the south half of Lot 22, Concession 6; just banged it right down. It didn't cut a very wide swath but it banged it right down through the townhsip. It was a real freak windstorm. *Note: It is difficult to determine who is speaking each sentence without the original recordings., IHS404a
