Norval Morrisseau: Opening Reception

The Innisfil ideaLAB & Library is excited to be partnering with the Maclaren Art Centre and the Innisfil Arts, Culture, Heritage Council to celebrate a first for Innisfil in the exhibition of the world renowned artist Norval Morrisseau. This exhibition is a celebration of Canada's First Nations arts community, and is the first major display of art of this calibre in Innisfil.

Please join us at 7pm on Tuesday, June 25 for a special talk from the Maclaren Art Centre, followed by the Annual General Meeting of the Innisfil Arts, Culture, Heritage Council. Light refreshments will be provided.

This year's IACHC AGM is excited to include a special reception celebrating a new exhibit at the ideaLAB & Library of Soul Floating in a Cosmic Sea by Anishnaabe artist Norval Morrisseau, on loan from the Maclaren Art Centre in Barrie.

Anishinaabe artist Norval Morrisseau (1931-2007) was born in Sand Pointe Reserve near Thunder Bay, Ontario. He survived residential school and lived with his maternal grandparents for most of his youth, learning both Catholic and Anishinaabe teachings and growing into an accomplished artist. Norval Morrisseau, also known as Copper Thunderbird, was named a Member of the Order of Canada and the Royal Academy of Arts. His work can be found in important collections throughout North America, including the National Gallery of Canada, the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, the MacLaren Art Centre and others. Today he remains one of Canada’s best-known artists.
