Packing the blocks of ice - the Dallimore ice building was 100 by 100 feet, and about 16 feet high. The photo shows a block of ice approximately 3 by 5 feet being placed on the frame skids. The ice house had 10 inch walls full of sawdust and each layer was covered in sawdust. Using this method, ice could last as long as two years!!
