Robert Alexander Sutherland and his wife Elizabeth Jane (née Johnston) had eight children, all born on their family farm. Grandfather John Johnston cleared the farm - all but 5 acres out of 100 acres - until 1944, when sale took place. Jean (later Jean Hand) was youngest: 5 boys, 3 girls. Daughter Margaret (later Mrs. Andrew) lived in Maple (1976). Son Fraser married Bernice Margaret Jennet of Thornton (daughter of Miller and Elizabeth Jenett). Fraser and Bernice operated a dairy farm on the north half of lot 14, concession 9 before selling the farm in 1993 and retiring. They had four sons: Colin, John, Gordon, and Robert. Mrs. Jean Sutherland (born 29 October 1869) died on 8 October 1946, and Mr. Robert A. died in 1958.
