Dawson's Drug Store at the north west corner of intersection of Highways 27 and 89 in Cookstown with three small boys posing in the doorway. The boys are Gordon Dawson, Douglas Dawson and Donald Monkman, about 1927. Mr. Blackmore used to direct traffic at this intersection. Both Gordon and Douglas Dawson served as pilots in the Royal Canadian Air Force (115 Squadron) in World War II. Gordon and Douglas were brothers, the sons of Thomas James Dawson and Isobel Caroline Dawson. Gordon was also the husband of Gwendoline Doris Dawson. He died on 15 November 1944 at age 22 and is buried in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery in Germany. Douglas Dawson died on 17 September 1944 at age 19 and is buried in Strijen Protestant Cemetery in the Netherlands. Both Dawson brothers are listed in the Canadian Virtual War Memorial.
