Photograph of troops in uniform amongst several white tents, taken in 1914. Between 1914 and 1918 the Cookstown Agricultural Fairgrounds were used as a training ground for soldiers before travelling to fight overseas in the First World War. This photo was taken near the Cookstown train station as the 76th Battalion stopped on route to the winter barracks, located at the Barrie Armoury. They had stopped to perform the drill as a way of showcasing their skills to the community after so many local residents had volunteered to join the Battalion.
