Image taken from 'The History of Two Pioneer Families and The Farm at S.H. Lot 19, Con. 5. Innisfil Township, Simcoe County'. Mabel and Millie, the two daughters of Robert and Mrs. Stewart. It was not uncommon to see a pet lamb on a farm where sheep were being raised. Frequently a mother ewe would disown her strong healthy lamb and as a last resort some member of the family would volunteer to raise the lamb on cow's milk as shown in this picture. As the pet lamb matured it usually became quite a nuisance and was turned in with the farm flock. It was amazing to see how quickly the pet lamb learned to steal its meals from an ewe that was raising a single lamb.
