Man Drowns In North Canal Wilburt Fred Crane, 54, of R.R.1 Bradford, drowned last Friday when his 1969 model pick-up truck roared into the canal at the end of Fraser St. Ontario Provincial Police of the Bradford detachment said that Crane was being sought prior to the accident regarding a minor hit-and-run accident that occurred east on the Canal Rd. Police said the Crane vehicle drove right into the canal without stopping, at the intersection of Fraser and the Canal Rd. The accident occurred around 5:10 p.m. Earlier, police were called to investigate a minor property damage accident involving the Crane truck and a car owned by John Holland of Shaver Ave., Islington. Damage was $20. Police said that following that accident, Crane visited someone and they speculate that he believe he was driving on the Simcoe road when his truck went into the canal. Crane was unmarried. Bradford Firemen recovered the submerged truck 45 minutes after it went into the canal. Crane's body was still in the cab. Police said the man had been drinking.
