Driver Miscalculated Truck Skids Into Canal When OPP Constable Carle Churly arrived at an accident on the North Canal Rd., he found 40-foot skid marks on the road, a 70-foot track on the shoulder and another 188-foot slide mark on the shoulder - all leading to a half-ton truck in the canal. Terrance Gwyn, 20, of John St., identified himself as the driver. Constable Churly charged him with careless driving. The policeman testified the road is "tricky" and has 30-mile-an-hour speed signs along it. Gwyn testified the canal water was cold, he didn't think he was going to fast but has he drove into a curve he felt the rear end of the truck fish-tail and when he pulled the wheel to compensate he lost control and the truck, he and his passenger Nancy Sutton, all went into the canal. His lawyer, James Otton, told Judge W.R. Kennedy that Gwyn seemed to have miscalculated as he drove into the curve that that didn't amount to careless driving. The judge agreed and Gwyn was freed.
