Photo of John S. Leonard and his family in Democrat, which was a type of horse-drawn carriage popular in the early twentieth century. The photo shows two large draft horses pulling a carriage filled with at least seven people on a dirt road or laneway. John S. was the son of John Leonard and Sarah Black, and had one brother and five sisters. John S. married Sarah Corbett from Knock and had two daughters and three sons: Meta, James, Fred, Minerva, and Albert. His farm, known as Kildare Place Farm, had an apple orchard and supplemented the family's income by shipping eggs and butter to Toronto. John S. died in 1926 and the farm was taken over by his son James.
