Centennial Park Opening Ceremony

Photograph of Mrs. Mervyn Noble of Lefroy and J.W. Reid of Craigvale (1875-1974), who went to school together at the Fifth Line in the 1880s, at the opening ceremony of Centennial Park located at the 7th Line and Sideroad 10. The pair are posed on either side of a commemorative plaque stating "This pavilion has been erected by the citizens of Innisfil Township in memory of the pioneers who through their hard work and sacrifices laid symbolically the corner stone long ago and to the men of our township who served and gave their lives to enable us to live in freedom and peace." Centennial Park Pavilion

Photograph of a pavilion in Centennial Park. This park was created to celebrate Canada's Centennial in 1967. The pavilion itself was the site of many reunions, church services and children's day camps. A plaque was installed on the side of the pavilion with the following dedication: "This pavilion has been erected by the citizens of Innisfil Township in memory of the pioneers who through their hard work and sacrifices laid symbolically the corner stone long ago and to the men of our township who served and gave their lives to enable us to live in freedom and peace.", IHS4263

Chantler's General Store 1930
-
This street scene depicts Chantler’s General Store on Yonge Street. It was the first home of the library in Stroud. The members of the Women’s Institute, seeing a need for a library donated over 100 books in 1912 to begin. The primary caretakers of the fledgling library were Mrs. A. Neelands and her brother, C.E. Chantler. The library remained at the General Store until Mrs. Neelands’ death in 1921.
The building was later used as a medical centre, and as of 2020 is now in use as the first commercial art gallery in Stroud called Be Contemporary Gallery, which opened on 1 March 2020 with an exhibition called “A Leap of Faith, The making of a gallery space” and due to the Covid-19 pandemic, closed 14 days later. It reopened on 13 August 2020.

Charles "Bert" Quantz

Photo of Charles Cuthbert Quantz, known as Bert, as a baby in 1883. Bert was born on 24 November 1882, and died on 19 February 1918 at age 35. He was the son of Benjamin Franklin "B.F." Quantz and Adeline Marsh, and married to Clara Rainey. Together they had two daughters, Reta Selina and Cora Mabel. He is buried in St. Paul's Cemetery in Innisfil. Photo of Charles Cross, who was a farmer from Dalhousie. He moved to Innisfil in approximately 1836. He married his first wife, Margaret A. Cunningham on 1 January 1860. After her death he later married his second wife, Martha Ann Cluff, in 1873. He had five children from his first marriage and eleven from his second., IHS1563

Charles Srigley

Photo of Charles Srigley in a horse drawn buggy. Mr. Srigley was the first mailman out of the Allandale Post Office. His rural delivery route covered 27 miles from Allandale to the 10th concession, down to the lower sideroad (No. 10) across to the 11th Line, up the 11th to Sideroad 5, down the 12th to the 10th Sideroad, across it to Conc. 13, up the 13th to Highway 27 and back into Allandale., IHS1414

Charlie Stewart and Robert (Bob)Stewart, first cousins to Mrs. Edna Allan. Bob had a farm in Cherry Creek. Charlie lived on the 7th Line (Donnelly farm now), then went out west. He is in the grain business there., IHS763
